Due to his fathers work, the family moved to Romania in 1985 and two years later to Venezuela. In 1988 the family was in a plane accident, which Anton and his younger brother survived but in which their parents tragically died. The brothers moved to Sweden to live with relatives and Anton started playing drums in his mid teens in various punk and rock bands alongside the school marching band. He went on to study classical percussion and after high school served as a musician in His Majesty´s King´s Guard in Norway. At the age of 22 he attended the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and took his master degree there. The city has since served as a platform for all the bands Anton has performed with and co-led, including Anglo-Scandinavian piano trio Phronesis, JazzKamikaze and longtime collaborator Marius Neset, with whom he has co-written and produced the saxophonists three latest albums.;www.mortenschantz.com
