A half century after the death of the iconic Polish composer, a terrific combination of Polish and UK artists tell the full story of Komeda’s life, music and legacy, with a stunning visual backdrop of rare and archive movie clips and interviews with his collaborators and family.
Krzysztof Komeda is an iconic figure in Polish contemporary culture, renowned internationally for the music that was integral to the evolution of Polish cinema in the 60s including landmark films by Polanski and Wajda, Knife in the Water, Cul de Sac, Rosemary’s Baby, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Innocent Sorcerers amongst them. He is equally respected for his contribution, as pianist and composer, at a time where European jazz was creating a language of its own, with his 1965 album Astigmatic viewed as a major game-changer.
Artists performing include two fast emerging Polish voices – Jarecki, and Nigerian /Polish Emose Uhunmwangho. Musical director and saxophonist James Morton leads a specially formed sextet, with Quentin Collins (trumpet/ flugel), Neil Charles (bass), Tomasz Bura (piano) and Richard Spaven (drums).
