A really special night for us at CAJ as we present a unique line-up of saxes, organ and drums featuring two of the leading saxophonists of the UK jazz, blues and rock scene, Nick Payn and Nick Pentelow, and blues keyboardist/vocalist extraordinaire Bob Haddrell.
Nick Payn’s illustrious career as a “gun-for-hire” session saxophonist and harmonica player has resulted in a list of performance credits which reads like a history of contemporary UK music. He’s recorded extensively with Gary Moore, Bill Wyman, The Kinks’ Ray Davies, Dr Feelgood, and many others. He toured for many years with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, and other live work includes Van Morrison, Lonnie Donegan, Chas ’n’ Dave and Paul Young.
Nick Pentelow joined Roy Wood’s Wizzard in 1972, recording and touring with the band for several years and then going on to work with bluesman Gary Moore, Andy Fairweather-Lowe, Dreams Come True, Gary Brooker, Roger Chapman, and countless others.
Bob Haddrell has a distinguished pedigree as one of the UK’s foremost blues keyboardists, and his work on Hammond organ is renowned. The mark of the great Hammond player is the addition of pedal bass, a feat of coordination which needs to be seen to be believed! With the addition of the occasional vocal too, Bob is a musical powerhouse on the stage.
