Jazz from the north – five bands chosen from the fertile musical territory that includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Icelandic pianist Baldvin Snær plays from his album Renewal.

Finland’s Signe – it means “a woman triumphant” in old Scandinavian – are a sisterhood of four voices and a double bass.

Danish quintet I Just Came from the Moon won the Danish Young Jazz Competition, and feature their album Hoax, with the atmospheric writing of leader Ferderik Hagner at the core.

Norway’s BounceAlarm are a sextet combining whiplash bop breaks, oases of cool jazz, and rock energy.

Finally to Sweden, whose Don-Qui Five take to the stage with a brand of massive and hyperactive acoustic impro-rock.
