Event Details

“Jump Monk” is a tune written by bassist & composer Charles Mingus honouring his fellow jazz icon, pianist Thelonious Monk. A fitting title then for this quintet featuring material by both Mingus & Monk and led by bassist Arnie Somogyi (whose glittering CV includes work with Tom Jones, Amy Winehouse and Charlie Watts to renowned jazz artists including John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, Steve Grossman, James Moody, Bobby Hutcherson, Annie Ross, Clare Martin, Art Farmer & many others, as well as appearances on film soundtracks including ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ and on-screen in the Oscar-nominated “An Education”). The band the Arnie has put together to do justice to his material would have to be exceptional as well and indeed it is, including BBC Jazz, MOBO & Parliamentary Jazz Award winning saxophonist Tony Kofi, pianist Mark Edwards (Nina Simone, Terry Callier, Aztec Camera) & drummer Clark Tracey (son of Stan).
