Led by Michel Pinheiro, ASO is a musical dancing machine that will take you on a journey from Cotonou to Cuba, during which they will soak you in the Manding rhythms of West Africa, gospel, rhythm and blues and reggae as they explore the melting pot that is Cuban salsa. Built on a foundation of devilishly infectious danceable rhythms and blazing horns, the explosive 10-piece African Salsa Orchestra formed in 2014 and make their UK debut at Hideaway for this special London African Music Festival event.

Event Details

Band leader Michel Pinheiro, a ‘disciple’ of the legendary Ivory Coast guitarist Mamadou Doumbia, plays trombone and carries the vocal duties (singing in French, English, Spanish and the African dialects of Yoruba, Fon, and Dioula) as he explores the influences of voodoo cults, western music, Nigerian drums and the addition of Cuban piano and brass that have all contributed to the great salsa sound.
Michel Pinheiro (Benin) lead vocal & trombone, Patrick Bebey (Cameroon) piano, Jean-Richard Codjia (Benin) congas, John Paul Melindji (Ivory Coast) and Low Kelly Koto (Congo) drums, Florent Brick (France) trumpet, Alexis Bourguignon ( La France) trumpet.
