Classic Latin jazz rock band Cayenne, originating from the depths of Camden Town, return to Hideaway to deliver a uniquely British flavour of jazzy Afro Cuban rhythms with some stellar guest vocalists, just in time for Streatham Festival!
With a ferociously energetic six piece rhythm section playing alongside horns and vocals, Cayenne instantly get the audience’s pulses racing. They have backed luminaries such as Nina Simone, Gil Scott Heron, Paquito di Rivera, Arturo Sandoval and toured with Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and Machito and his Orchestra.
Started in the Camden area of London in 1979, Cayenne has a uniquely British flavour of jazz-rock and Afro Cuban rhythms, with an extensive original back catalogue of songs, plus the odd cover! Their dance floor hit “Roberto Who” made it into clubs across the world receiving gold discs in Mexico and Greece. The infectious jazzy fusion they created in the 80’s and early 90’s helped revitalise an interest in Latin music in the UK, and the the various members of the band played on recorded tracks and toured with many pop acts who used latin influences in their music such as: Wham, Madness, Haircut 100, Eurythmics, ABC, Matt Bianco, Incognito, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Elton John, George Michael and Tom Jones.
