Unknown to Known offers an intimate dialogue of meandering melodies and textural grooves over resounding harmonic landscapes. At times euphoric and often dynamic, this music is always interactive, honest and raw.
On woodwinds, Idris Rahman and Tamar Osborn weave together the melodic fabric of this music. Their lyrical approach gracefully compliments one another, whether they play in unison or counterpoint.
Jihad Darwish oscillates between the sitar, double bass and electric bass, providing a bridge from melodic and harmonic worlds down to earthy, pulsating yet sensitive grooves which Yusuf Ahmed ties together on the drums and various hybrid percussion instruments.
“Blown away. The best I can do is to keep my silence” (Play It Loud!)
“One to excite any modern jazz head. The music they create as Unknown To Known is a whole new level of aural meditation.” (Twisted Soul)
Idris Rahman: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Flute
Tamar Osborn: Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, Flute
Jihad Darwish: Sitar, Double Bass, Electric Bass
Yusuf Ahmed: Drums, Percussion

Byron Wallen is ‘one of the most innovative, exciting and original trumpet players alive’ (Jazzwise).
Here he presents his project Black Flag with pianist Nick Ramm.
The music charts the psychological and emotional frontiers of contact between a mother and her son separated by the Atlantic Ocean. It dives into the multi-layered toxic waste caused by global imperialism and colonialism. The creation of lost souls and generations living in socio-economic poverty confined within a mental bubble of paralysis. Explore the shifting balance of power between the urban and rural with a glimpse of light before the Sun.
The polymathic UK trumpeter and composer has been walking a creative line between classic-jazz virtuosity and global conceptual adventurousness since the mid 1990s. ‘Black Flag’ is up there with the inventiveness of all his work. (John Fordham)
A transformed incarnation of works from nearly two decades back, but with video accompaniment (Jazzwise, 2021)
