The Dissolute Society explores Clarkson’s interests in contemporary improvisation, European jazz, 20th century classical music, poetry, spoken word, song, and soulful grooves, as well as original arrangements of music by Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor. Performed by some of London’s most innovative and in-demand musicians, these varied elements are brought together through a highly personal and expressive narrative, exploring themes of family history, grief, friendship and hope. Featuring Fini Bearman (vocals), Alice Zawadzki (vocals/violin), Zosia Jagodzinska (vocals/cello), Gustav Clarkson (viola), Laura Jurd (trumpet), Raph Clarkson (trombone, effects, vocals), Phil Merriman (keys/synth bass) and Simon Roth (drums).
Tonight’s performance will feature Huw Warren (piano), “One of the UK’s truly independent spirits” The Guardian) as a special guest, and will be dedicated to the memory of the legendary pianist John Taylor.”
“Raphael Clarkson caught the ear with some inventive lines and a big sound to boot…consistently good trombone work” – Bebop Spoken Here blog
