Event Details

“Mick Foster, a master of the baritone saxophone with an obvious debt to Gerry Mulligan…His rich baritone sound and positive refined playing come over superbly” Jazz Journal

Mick Foster has worked extensively in the worlds of jazz and classical music. Known primarily as a baritone saxophone player, he has played with many groups including the big bands of John Dankworth and Stan Sulzmann, Laura Jurd’s Human Spirit, the Humphrey Lyttelton band and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He plays at the Vortex every month with the London Jazz Orchestra, often contributing original compositions. Mick has recorded three albums under his own name, and he has written for many different types of ensemble.

“Foster is a bright, imaginative soloist who exploits his instrument’s grainy, fruity charms perfectly, and his choice of material is impeccable. If you like your jazz warm, tasteful and elegant, without grandstanding…this is for you.” Chris Parker, London Jazz

with Jonathan Gee: piano • Phil Scragg: bass • Jeremy Shoham: sax • Rick Finlay: drums
